Lake Travis Living

If you know anything about the Austin, Texas area, you know a hidden gem is Lake Travis. To locals, Lake Travis is a community in itself, a suburb of the big city. It is known for swimming, boating, and other water sports. If you are lucky enough to score a home in the Lake Travis area, you are almost guaranteed some of the best views in the metroplex. That is the case for this specific client. Her home is perched on a hill, overlooking all of Lake Travis and the beautiful area that surrounds it.

The Story

This client came into our showroom with a specific vision in mind. She had a natural eye for design and knew what she wanted, but needed assistance in putting it all together. The client had seen Kraftmaid’s Translucent Limestone finish in a magazine, and immediately fell in love. Luckily, we have an entire display of this particular finish at our Austin showroom, which the customer was thrilled to see in person. As soon as she saw it, she knew it was the perfect selection for her kitchen cabinets. While the customer knew what she wanted for the surrounding kitchen walls, she needed assistance selecting an accent color for her island. She ended up choosing a navy color called Midnight by Kraftmaid for her island, after finding a blue and gold marble pattern glass backsplash. The Midnight island color would be the perfect way to tie into the blue backsplash. Once the color selections were decided on, her and our designer Allison got to work planning out the design and layout of the kitchen remodel.

The Design Process

Before:
Initial kitchen look 1
Luckily, this client already had a large and open kitchen layout to work with. She knew she wanted to maximize her storage, but modernize the overall look. Some of her specific requests were a designated space for spices, a toaster oven, sheet pans, and lots of drawers.
Initial kitchen look 2

The client wanted a total transformation of her refrigerator wall. She desired a specific space for everything, and did not want anything sitting on the countertop. Initially, Allison recommended cabinet pantries on this wall, however, the client requested an individual cabinet for each specific item she needed to store.

Initial kitchen look 3
The existing island was bulky, outdated, and felt as if it did not belong in the space. The client was very excited to help design a contemporary island that better fit her needs – functionally and aesthetically. Her must-haves for the island included a trash pullout cabinet, lots of drawers, and functional base cabinets on the back side.
Design Renderings:

Allison brought the vision to life with these realistic renderings, and really helped the client picture the new design in her own home. The kitchen now had everything the client desired – the Kraftmaid Translucent Limestone finish she had fallen in love with, the Kraftmaid Midnight finish island that tied into the focal wall with the stunning blue backsplash, and a gorgeous Architectural Surface Quartzite countertop called Fantasy Lux.

The client would now have a new and improved refrigerator wall with lots of storage and a designated space for everything. The island was simple, yet functional, and now fit in with the rest of the kitchen.

The Results

This was definitely not your typical white or gray kitchen, and our team and the client are beyond pleased as to how it turned out! The Shaker Style Kraftmaid Lyndale doors helped modernize the entire space, while the blue backsplash provided a stunning eye-catching focal point. The Fantasy Lux quartzite had vein lines with blues and grays, and really completed the entire look. The beautiful backsplash is definitely the focal point of the space. The cabinets turned out beautifully, and the quartzite countertop was stunning.
