Modern Mayhem

Rollingwood is a gorgeous part of Austin that features rolling hills, and stunning views. Rollingwood is between downtown Austin, headed into the Texas hill country. It is one of the more family-friendly areas that people love raising families in. While also still having an urban feel to the area. What do families tend to need? Functional kitchens that create a space for all members of the family to enjoy. Whether that be a homework space for your school age kids, or a place to host for the adults of the house. Some of people’s best memories revolve around their kitchen space.

The Story:

This particular case is exactly what we just described. A family of four wanting more space for homework and entertainment. In their current space, they had a wall separating their kitchen from their dining room. Which made the previous space choppy, and harder to mitigate the two spaces. They then decided they wanted to open up that space to make it a more open-concept layout. Additionally, the owners added a large peninsula for seating purposes. A kitchen is not the only space that needs to be more practical for four people. We also completely remodeled their bathroom to tie in their brand new space. We paired the owners with our designer Dave, and they were ready to start the design process. They stated they wanted a modern look, so that is exactly what we gave them.

The Solution:

For cabinetry, they decided to go with one of our lines called Merillat. Everyone loves this certain brand of cabinets, because they have a solid warranty, and are made to be semi-custom. Which makes there a lot of possibilities for the layout. Every vendor we use here at Cabinet IQ, we believe in their product 100%, and only choose to sell the best of the best. The family specifically chose a fusion door style with a basalt stained finish. To go with their desire for a modern look, Dave designed a door panel that goes onto their dishwasher to conceal it. Customers love adding panels to bulky appliances that may not necessarily match their modern aesthetic. The countertops featured Unique Calacatta from one of our brands, Stratus. Being 3cm in size, and a squared eased edge. Unique Calacatta Quartz features soft wide gray veins that descend across a classic white surface. This is a perfect option for someone that loves a classy, modern look. The hardware used throughout was Europa tab pulls in polished chrome. The bathroom featured a modern slab front, and a walnut floating vanity. The floating vanity is perfect for those wanting a minimalist bathroom solution, that isn’t too overpowering for the space. Down below you will see the renderings that Dave, our designer created to show our customers how the space would look before physically installing anything.

The Results:

We were able to install a completely redesigned kitchen. As you can probably tell, the before and after photos showcased a dramatic difference. We here at Cabinet IQ like to think if the before and after photos from a project don’t look like they’re from the same home, that’s a great sign. When homeowners come to see us, they usually want a huge change. Especially if the home is extremely outdated. With this particular case, it was a total transformation.
