Two-Tone Stain Kitchen Remodel

The Story:

The homeowners loved their home and the neighborhood but their outdated kitchen did not fit their lifestyle. Watching the Cedar Park area grow, they enjoyed all their favorite places in this wonderful community and did not want to move. They are a very active couple who raised their 6 children in the house where the kitchen was the heart. Their now grown children come back for holidays and visits with their little ones where the kitchen is the hub of all the gatherings for family and friends. Cedar Park is a very desirable and sought after area for residential and commercial so updating the space with a kitchen remodel was the way to go.

The Kitchen Design Process:

The open concept kitchen/dining/family rooms needed a face lift. The kitchen had to be functional, roomy, and aesthetically pleasing. It was divided into the prepping center, cooking center, coffee center and the bar area. The large island offered seating for guests to chat or lots of space to help with the prep. During large gatherings, it also provided a beautiful surface for a bountiful display of hors d’oeuvres and snacks.

The client wanted a warm softened two-tone palette with enough division that even sizable groups felt as though there was lots of breathing room. The stacked microwave and oven cabinet created the maximum amount of countertop space in the kitchen. With the cabinets designed to the ceiling with crown molding, maximum storage was achieved. The large walk-in pantry was left intact so there wasn’t a need for pantry cabinets or a corner lazy susan.

The kitchen cabinet materials used came from two different cabinet vendors. To keep the cost affordable, a stock cabinet line was chosen in a shaker cabinet door style with soft close hinges. These cabinet lines come unassembled and we assemble them locally. The upper cabinets near the stove are Procraft Cabinetry in the Newport stain color. The base cabinets are the brand NKBC in the charcoal gray stain. The two-tone wall cabinets add an interesting element. The countertops chosen were Cambria Kelvingrove in a 3cm thickness. The cabinet hardware came from Top Knobs with the SKU code TK724AG and TK723AG.

The Results:

Extra storage was provided by stacking upper cabinets and using interior accessories to improve the functionality of the cabinets. Distinct areas were created each with their own functions…a coffee bar, wine storage and dry bar area, even a space for visiting while the hosts are in the kitchen. A variety of textures and an interesting range hood created the “Wow” factor.
