Granite is a natural stone, so its color and movement change from slab to slab. Seeing the stone in person before it's cut matters more with granite than with any other material we install. It also needs sealing, and how often depends on the stone.

Countertop Installation in Knoxville, TN
Your countertops are cut to the cabinets they sit on
Countertop installation in Knoxville starts with the cabinets underneath. A quartz or granite top is cut to fit the installed base cabinets, so any gap or tilt in the base shows up in the finished counter.
When the cabinets come from one company and the stone from another, the template waits until someone confirms the base is ready. That someone is usually you, calling two offices to find out where your counters are.
At Cabinet IQ of Knoxville, the team that designs and sets your cabinets also handles your countertops in house, from the template visit to the install. One schedule covers both, starting with your first visit to our showroom on Parkside Drive.
Countertop installation by material & project
For countertop installation, Knoxville homes all start the same way, with a template taken on site against the cabinets that are actually there. From there, the material and the kind of project shape each install, so it’s worth comparing the full range of countertops in Knoxville before you choose.
Quartz is engineered, so its pattern runs evenly across the slab and it needs no sealing. That even pattern makes seams easier to place where they're least noticed. The resin that binds it can mark under direct heat, so keep a trivet beside the cooktop.
In a full remodel, the countertops go in once the new cabinets are set, so their date depends on the rest of the build. Planning the cabinets and the countertops together keeps both on one schedule, and you see door and stone side by side.
How countertop installation works with us
Countertop installation with us runs in five stages, and you'll know what happens at each one before it starts.
Your project starts with a free design consultation at 11623 Parkside Dr, on the Farragut side of Knoxville. You'll see the countertop slabs in our showroom and compare them beside the cabinet doors they'll sit next to in your kitchen.
Before anything is ordered, you'll see the whole kitchen in a 3D rendering, countertops included. Bring photos of your kitchen and your sink and cooktop choices, so the plan starts from what you have.
Stone can't be measured from a drawing, so it's templated on base cabinets that are installed and level. We measure every run on site, along with the sink and cooktop openings, and mark where any seam will sit.
Walls in older Knoxville homes, including many kitchens in Oak Ridge, are often out of square. The template records them as they are, so the counter meets the wall without a wide gap. Plan to be home to confirm the faucet holes and the overhang on the seating side.
Your countertops are cut from the template in house. Before cutting, the template is laid out on the slab to decide where the veins fall and where any seam goes, which matters most with granite and veined quartz.
The edges are then profiled and polished, and the openings are cut to the sink and cooktop models you chose. If your sink or a cabinet changes after the template, tell us right away. A change once cutting starts usually means recutting a piece of stone.
Our team carries the countertops in, sets them on the cabinets and levels them, then joins any seams so they sit flush. Most kitchen countertop installs are finished in a single day.
Clear the counters and the cabinet under the sink the night before. If the path to your kitchen has steps or a steep drive, such as a lake home on a slope near Lenoir City, mention it at the template visit so the crew can plan how the stone comes in.
Before we leave, we walk the kitchen with you and check every seam and edge together. It's worth running your hand along each seam and looking down the wall line for any gap, since both are easiest to fix while the crew is still there.
You'll get care notes for your material, including what it needs on the first day and whether it needs sealing. If something catches your eye later, such as a seam that looks different in evening light, you'll know who to call.
How long countertop installation takes in Knoxville
Countertop installation follows the cabinet schedule. The template can't happen until the base cabinets are in and level, and the install follows fabrication. These are the things that move your date:
| What affects it | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The material | A color the supplier has in stock moves faster than one the manufacturer ships in. |
| Cabinets ready & level | The template can only happen once the base cabinets are in. |
| Sink & cooktop choice | Openings can't be cut until we know the exact models. |
| Size & layout | A long island or an L-shaped run with seams takes more fabrication time. |
Settling your sink and cooktop before the template visit is the surest way to keep your date.
Caring for your new countertops
Go easy on the counters for the first day while the seam adhesive cures. After that, warm water and a mild dish soap handle daily cleaning for every material we install.
- Quartz and solid surface: use a trivet under hot pans, since heat can mark the surface
- Granite and quartzite: reseal on the schedule your stone needs, and wipe up oil and wine before they sit
- Every material: use a cutting board, and skip vinegar and abrasive pads, which can dull the finish

What's included in your countertop installation
Every installation covers everything from the template visit to the install, done in house. You won't be handed off to an outside installer partway through. We don't sell sinks, so you'll choose yours before the template visit.

Still deciding on material?
We install quartz, quartzite, granite and solid surface countertops. Each one handles heat and daily care differently, so the right choice depends on how you cook. Compare them in person on Parkside Drive.

Frequently asked questions
The price depends on the material, the square footage, the edge profile and the number of cutouts. For the bigger picture, see what a kitchen remodel costs in Knoxville, or bring your layout to the design consultation.
Most L-shaped runs and long islands need at least one seam, because slabs come in set sizes. The seam location is set before fabrication, so ask to see it marked on your layout.
Plan on about 12 inches of overhang for counter-height stools. Stone overhangs past 10 to 12 inches usually need brackets or corbels, planned before the template visit.
Three centimeters is the usual thickness for kitchen stone and quartz, and it can sit directly on the cabinets. Thinner two-centimeter stone typically needs a plywood base for support.
After. Backsplash tile sits on top of the countertop, so the counters go in first. Tile work can start once the counters are set and the seam adhesive has cured.
Quartz can fade or yellow slightly after years of strong direct sun, because of the resin in it. For a counter in full sun, granite or quartzite keeps its color better.
Yes. Quartz, quartzite, granite and solid surface all support an undermount sink, because the edge of the opening is finished and polished like the rest of the counter.
