Granite Countertops are actually very easy to maintain. For an everyday clean you can simply use mild soap and warm water.
Granite can tolerate extremely high temperatures. Placing hot pans will not affect the color or stability of the granite. It is, however, recommended that you use trivets to avoid stains in the long run.
Cutting directly on Granite is not recommended because it will be scraped by knives, but because Granite is tougher than your knife blades and will quickly dull them. Always cut and chop your food on a cutting board.
